Discovering the advantages of the Digital Factory – beyond the automation

The Digital Factory – beyond the automation, hearth of MECSPE 2014, is a project about the digital integration of all the systems and subsystems that compound a modern factory that in this specific case aims at the realization of parts for the Xam 2.0, an electric concept city car that was planned and produced by the Politecnico di Torino with the support of a series of industrial and non-industrial partners.Fig1_Mecspe

Everything that contribute to the realization of some important parts of the Xam 2.0, starting from planning up to production, controlling and testing, will be monitored during the whole production process with the logic of the Product Lifecycle Management and the whole dataflow coming from the different Working Isles will be transported through a WiFi “Factory Net”. This is the reason why the Digital Factory project, presented during this edition, will be developed on different theme areas, which are integrated one into the other and represent a specific production process: planning, production with different functioning machines and automation, control and measurement cells. In the middle of the Digital Factory there will be the end product: the XAM 2.0.

The Digital Factory – beyond the automation won’t be only a demonstration area, but also an area where technologies and solutions are already implementable in every companies, for similarity. The Digital Factory aims at supplying the visitors of MECSPE 2014 with new ideas about the way to improve their own production processes and products, with a perspective of costs control, times reduction and mistakes elimination through innovative solutions. Moreover, the creation of a WiFi factory net aims at the total connection without wiring, assuring the most efficiency and reliability and getting the versatility that a completely wired net will never allow. For example, it will be possible to verify the operation of the machines or control the process through ‘smart’ items, such as tablet or smart phone.

The data moving in this net will be completely “digital” with a “paperless” perspective. In a modern factory that respects the environment, the paper must be reduced to the minimum essential. A further goal of the “Digital Factory” is to show how any kind of data concerning the single product can be managed, changed and filed without using the eco-unfriendly “piece of paper”.

In addition to the areas interconnected to the Digital Factory, there will be a series of WIP Work in Progress Demonstrative Units of Xam 2.1 (the evolution of Xam 2.0), that represent, within the general project, production units displaced and not yet integrated, where the technological innovations implemented on the XAM 2.1 will be showed (these are now in an advanced development phase).

The extreme aim of the partition of the project into Xam 2.0 and Xam 2.1 production chains will be the demonstration of the ‘connectability’ of the Demonstrative Units of a production chain in a medium/long-term project (in 2015 the implementation of XAM 2.1 will be finished). Among the production chains addressed to Xam 2.1 there will be also the machining of plastic materials, composites and rapid manufacturing, in order to offer to the visitors the most complete and exhaustive scene of the technologies dedicated to the automotive sector.

In addition to the demonstration moment of the whole path there will be deepening moments about the involved technologies.

The partners of the Digital Factory – beyond the automation – Xam 2.0*

Siemens: coordinator and brain of this “Factory” will be the Teamcenter, the solution suggested by Siemens for the integration of the processes. The whole dataflow of the different isles from and to the Teamcenter will be directed through a WiFi “Factory Net”, that was created thanks to products specific for the industry and made available by Siemens Simatic.net. The data about the efficiency, productivity and use, but also the whole tools management will be monitored directly on the machines equipped with Sinumerik or through the Teamcenter, thanks to the connection to the “Sinumerik Integrate” platform formerly present on the line of CNC Siemens.

All the CNC, the automation of the machines present in the isles, the CAM and the measurement machines will be completely integrated into the system through “Integrate”, that will acquire all the shopfloor-side information

Autodesk/Prisma Tech: partner of the original project of Xam 2.0 presents, within the trade show project, solutions in the Simulation (Autodesk Simulation Moldflow), Factory Layout (Autodesk Factory Design Suite), Concept Design (Autodesk Alias) and Visualisation (Autodesk VRed) areas

  1. After all, that’s why I came in this way and likely the reason why you’re here too.

Be sure to avoid horizontal scrolling, that is never advisable by web design standards.
And it’s amazing to find out that despite the high rental, the bradenton area has witnessed a two % boost in demand within the last quarter.

  2. Home buyers are attempting every possible option offered to find
flats in Bangalore at reasonable price. The suitability
of one’s home is going to be influenced by that which
you like and the way they fit to your lifestyle. If you

  3. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like yyou wrote the book iin it or something.

I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that,
this is wonderful blog. A fantastic read.
    I wull definitely be back.
