All the heat of sustainability with Sesino

Established over one century ago by the progenitor Costante, Sesino is now headquartered at Gessate (in Milan province) where it focuses its activity of research and development on heat exchangers and on the strategies to optimize their production. The strong focus on innovation and on the investments regularly lavished in it have allowed the Lombard company – now headed by Gianluigi and Gabriele Sesino, respectively the grandson and the great grandson of the founder – to give birth to MSG 84 and MSG 134 series. Since the early phases, two guidelines have oriented the evolution of the ranges, sharing analogous technical specifications but differing for size and then use applications. The first consists in the more massive use of automation in the properly called manufacturing stage. The other is instead represented by the environmental sustainability.

The importance of the removable tube bundle

«Compared to our current heat exchangers, for this line we made a choice of environmental sustainability; we eliminated all the welding and the consequent fumes caused by flames and fluxes that must be sucked from the work environment. We eliminated the subsequent washing operations that generate dirty water to be treated as special waste. This way we could ensure a better work environment for our employees and no environmental pollution», says Gianluigi Sesino.

The welding of the tubes to the tube sheets have been replaced by an automated precision tube expanding, that ensures a high-quality level of the coupling and a constant production. 100% of the expanded tube bundles are pressure tested, as well as the 100% of the finished exchangers are pressure tested.
The MSG heat exchangers have a removable tube bundle that is very easy to assemble and disassemble or replace it with a new one. The accuracy of the mechanical processing with very close tolerances and use of special seals allowed us to increase the thermic performance of around 10-15 % for the same external dimensions: the new line design is protected by patent already filed.
The MSG line is perfectly interchangeable with the old MS line Shell, manifolds and covers are not painted but anodised, gaining this way a better protection.

  • Tube sheets: hardened steel
  • Shell: extruded anodised aluminium
  • Covers: anodized die-cast aluminum
  • Seals Kit: viton
In the open sea
Once made the opportune modifications, the exchangers of MSG 84 and MSG 134 series by Costante Sesino in the future might find applications also in marine environments and engines. However, the company has a good ranking in the segment of off-shore applications characterized by high concentration of air salinity with the thirteen alternate current exchangers that make up AP-EM family. The components that constitute these models (AP 300 EM and then the sizes 300/2; 430; 430/2; 494; 580; 680; 730; 830; 2/680; 2/730; 2/830; 3/830) include an aluminium radiator with anti-corrosion anodization treatment (SWAAT test according to ASTM G 85-94 ANNEX A3 regulations) and a frame made of AISI 304 painted stainless steel. Moreover, a three-phase, 400 V 50 Hz or 480 V 60 Hz, electro-fan with IP 56 protection and stainless-steel net purposely developed for applications in off-shore sector; besides, a fixed-calibration thermostat (47-36 Celsius degrees or 60-49 Celsius degrees) with IP 65 protection. For the calculation of air-oil exchangers, Costante Sesino makes dedicated software available for users. The manufacturer has also underlined that air-oil exchangers can be used to cool other types of fluids, provided that they are compatible with aluminium and its alloys.
