Being able to match the typical dynamics of the industrial manufacturing process with the attention and the characteristic constant support of the craft workshop means to grant a perfect mix aimed at satisfying the most different market requirements.
The Italian company Colzani Ingranaggi is today a dynamic industrial reality that preserves its original craft features. This allows the perfect merging of precision, reliability and supply of a complete and broad machining range, typical of the industrial manufacturing process, with the experience and the primary goal of taking care of customers from all points of view and of supporting and satisfying them fully, by supporting them with technical professionals in design phase, instead typical features of the craft-type workshop.
«The company – explains the sole director Marco Colzani – is composed by 50 employees specialized in the production of medium-big size transmission gears. Toothed wheels, grooved shafts, worm screws, racks, joints and bombed adapters that find application in all power transmission wheelworks».
Today the Group consists of three independent manufacturing units that operate synergistically.
The first is headquartered at Mariano Comense (Como, Italy), where the administrative management is located, too, and it mainly executes internal and external gear cutting machining, grinding of teeth of medium-small size cylindrical gears and of gear cutting of grooved shafts with maximum working length of 5,300 mm. Besides, it carries out the milling and grinding of worm screw threads with ZK and ZI profile, cavity slotting and EDM.
The second company (it too headquartered at Mariano Comense) performs instead turning operations up to a maximum diameter of 1,200 mm and length of 5,000 mm, tooth grinding up to a diameter of 4,000 mm, with state-of-the art Niles and Hofler shape grinding machines. Interesting is the possibility of using a grinding wheel with 80 mm-diameter for parts with maximum diameter of 400 mm.
Finally, in the productive unit at Giussano (Monza Brianza, Italy), are installed big-size gear cutting machines, such as Pfauter P2300/A for gear cutting operations up to 3,000 mm diameter and 1,000 mm band, and those for bevel gears with straight toothing like Gleason 24 (900 mm diameter) and Modul 500 Zftk 500/2 for Coniflex 500 mm-toothing.
«In these premises – adds Colzani – we also execute the milling, drilling, gear-cutting and grinding of racks. We can therefore fulfil the complete supply of gears of various typologies and sizes, directly taking care of purchasing materials from suppliers attentively selected and of proven reliability, and of eventual heat treatments, still relying on prestigious companies».
Constant and continuous upgrading
In addition to all that, the company’s technical office can provide customers with its experience, collaborating and sharing in the optimization and realization of projects. Moreover, it can either execute surveys on mechanical parts and implement structural designs or provide a valid and decisive counselling in identifying the malfunction causes on all kinds of gear wheelworks.
«Our constant commitment to satisfying the most different and particular demands – underlines Marco Colzani – has led us to set up an outstanding highly composite machine basis».
Concerning this, the company is equipped with Maag gear cutting machines, mainly used to manufacture bi-helical or anyway special toothing; with grinding machines for rack teeth and grooved shafts; with machines for the tangential gear cutting of crowns with single-tooth tool, and with slotting machines for special grooved profiles; finally, with machines intended for wire EDM operations.
«We are deeply proud – adds Colzani – of our availability of an increasingly wide and diversified range of possible machining. Fundamental importance holds the capability of remaining competitive in a market that, day by day, is becoming more and more difficult and extremely dynamic. For this reason, we always pay utmost attention to the technological evolution of our sector, with targeted investments according to the current trend, upgrading both in terms of product quality and of process times. This, by osmosis, allows the generation of a relevant competitive advantage for our customers, ranking in the most varied sectors: from energy to the cableway and metallurgical industry, just to mention some of them».
Product and process quality
Precisely according to this strategy of constant and continuous process improvement, soon Colzani Ingranaggi will commission in its workshops two machine tools expected to provide outstanding operational advantages.
«The first– explains Colzani – is a gear shaper Clc 1000-S, NC controlled on 5 axes to machine maximum inner diameters up to 1,300 mm and external ones of 1,400 mm, with working cutting stroke of 350 mm, and table-spindle surface height of 1,100 mm. A machine for the gear cutting of gears up to module 16. The second is instead a slotting machine Cams 500 EA with working stroke of 900 mm, central table hole of 350 mm, external maximum diameter of the piece of 2,000 mm».
In the latter case, we are describing a machine that, besides traditional slotting operations, is suitable for the execution of real internal and external gear cutting operations, straight and helical, performed by shaping tool «To witness our commitment for the achievement of high qualitative levels – ends Colzani – we highlight the presence, inside our workshops, of a good three involute meters, used with continuity for the control of the productive cycle and the product quality certification. The most advanced of the three can measure wheels up to 3,000 mm- diameter».
